Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 8th November 2020

Hampton Wick

We are sad to have to report that the Government’s restrictions relating to COVID mean that Remembrance Sunday will have to be honoured differently this year, and Hampton Wick is no exception.

Procession cancelled

Instead of the usual procession through the High Street and the service in the Memorial Garden, a representative group of six people will meet to lay wreaths at the Memorial and to say a short prayer. It is anticipated that there will be two serving or veteran military personnel from Hampton Wick in addition to Rev. Jerry Field, one councillor, one representative from the HWA and one from a local school.

There will be a church service of remembrance at St John’s Hampton Wick where around 60 people can attend in person, plus it will be live-streamed so many more can ‘attend’ online. More details will be available nearer the time. A recording of the service will be available afterwards, and we will be publishing the text of Rev. Jerry’s address on the HWA website.

Of course many will also be placing their own wreaths at the Memorial Garden as individuals or on behalf of organisations (please respect social distancing) and the HWA will provide a place for wooden crosses of remembrance.

As we all remember and honour those who have served and those who continue to serve in the armed forces, please take some time to visit www.hwremembers.org.uk to learn more about the WW1 servicemen who are listed on the Hampton Wick Memorial.
