The Hampton Wick Big Picnic 2018 took place on 10th June on the King’s Field. Jointly organised by the HWA, the Friends of the King’s Field and St John’s Church, this was the third Big Picnic (it first took place in 2016 to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday).
We were blessed with glorious sunshine and the event was attended by hundreds of local people who enjoyed live music from local bands (from folk to brass and back again!) at this great outdoor community event. Many people brought picnics but the BBQ was also popular as were the home-made lemonade stand and the legendary home-made ice-creams at Mario’s cafe.
Children took part in egg and spoon races, enjoyed the pony rides, face painting, bouncy slide and bungee run. A particular hit was the giant colouring mural, kindly created for the occasion by Collective Creative of Hampton Wick.
Local charities and associations had stalls to showcase their activities, the Scouts ran an archery shoot, the cricket club introduced youngsters to the delights of the game and the Volunteer Police Cadets were a great help all round
We were pleased to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress, our new local councillors and (off duty) the Lord Lieutenant of London. We are also pleased to report that our MP Vince Cable was lucky on the tombola!
A wonderful day – many thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to organise and then run a very happy Hampton Wick event.
