Sunday parking problem - update

Still Kingston’s overflow car park!

Many of you will remember our article in the December 2019 HWA newsletter explaining how we seem to have been short-changed with regard to the anticipated changes to the Hampton Wick CPZ (Controlled Parking Zone).

We’d been expecting the changes to address the problems in Hampton Wick caused by Kingston Sunday shoppers.

Background

In Kingston, Sunday is the busiest day of the week. In Kingston, parking is charged the same as for other days. In Hampton Wick – a stone’s throw away – parking is free on Sundays. Actually, it’s worse than that, it’s even free on single yellow lines. Actually, it’s even worse than that, Kingston shoppers can – and do – park free of charge in our residents’ CPZ spaces. This means that there are rarely any free spaces for residents or for their families and friends trying to pay a visit on a Sunday.

We had a consultation in 2017 as a result of which the council drew up plans to alleviate the problem. Then at the last minute the plans were … parked in the long grass!

Why? What happened to them?

We’ve formally written to councillors asking for an answer. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Watch this space!
(Too late, a Kingston shopper has taken it!)
