Hole behind 83 High Street
Saturday 1st October 2022
Back in 2017, we highlighted the concerns of our community as to the state of the land to the rear of 83 High Street. Click here to read that report.
For those who don’t know, there is a large hole on this site. It was dug many years ago by would be developers, we believe to “start” development and so prevent planning permission from lapsing.
Leaking suspended pipe
At the time of our last report, a concerted press campaign and renewed interest from Richmond Council made us optimistic that the situation might be resolved.
In six years, nothing much has happened – and, in fact, the situation has worsened: a drain carrying sewage is suspended across the hole and the sewage no longer drains away, leading to intolerable conditions for those nearby – and we know that the issue is of wider concern.
Stagnant standing water
As at the time of writing, the Council is looking again at whether it has any powers than can be used to remedy the matter and we understand that out local MP, Munira Wilson, is also aware of the position and is supportive.
There are also questions as to the rights and obligations of Thames Water.
We’ll publish more news as and when we get it.
