The Hampton Wick Treasure Hunt took place on Saturday 13th July, the first event in the HWA’s Discover Hampton Wick campaign.
The aim of the event was to encourage people to get out and about to have fun while discovering new things about Hampton Wick and its amenities, local businesses and history.
And what a success it was! Almost 100 people took part, in 24 teams of adults, children and dogs. Click here to see photos of the day.
Teams followed the Treasure Hunt map to track down answers to clues all around Hampton Wick, from the High Street and Kingston Bridge, to the parks, the Library and the Church. Along the way they collected items including “a sugar sachet”, “a candle”, “something Spanish”, “a Library book” and an unlimited number of price lists and menus from local businesses. There were riddles and pictograms to solve, a paper aeroplane to make plus picture bingo for younger competitors.
Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received:
“Hampton Wick Treasure Hunt was excellent and what a great idea! It was exhilarating, exhausting and great fun… and we even learned a bit more about our wonderful village.”
“We all really enjoyed the event and thought it was great fun and very well organised.”
“I was encouraged to hear that 24 teams came through the church during the course of the afternoon. That sounds like an excellent turnout… and it has helped people get a better understanding of the area.”
“Great fun day for all the family”
“That is a seriously good turnout. Please accept my praise and respect on behalf of the library service.”
“The HW Treasure Hunt was great fun and clearly you and others put a lot of effort into everything.”
“It was a fun and enjoyable afternoon with lots to do, learn and explore about our lovely local area. A great time had by all. Roll on next year!”
“We thought it was a fabulous event. Really well organised and a great way of bringing the community together. The event itself had a good balance of puzzle solving and running about and starting/finishing in the Foresters made it really work. Hope you do it again next year!”
Congratulations to our worthy winners “The Fireballs” and runners-up “Hong Kong Phooey”.
And special congratulations to “Two Peas in a Pod” who were the first to solve the clues to discover the location of the secret Pot of Gold, which literally was a pot of gold – a mini flowerpot filled with £1 coins! The location was “in the carrier bag on the Bullen Hall coat stand.”
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped with organising, publicising, marshalling and scoring. And thank you to everyone who turned up on the day to take part.
See you next year!
