The Teddington and Hampton Wick Voluntary Care Group - 50th anniversary

The Teddington and Hampton Wick Voluntary Care Group celebrated its 50th anniversary with a party at St Mary’s Parish Hall on Saturday 7th June.

Click here for the photo gallery of the celebration.

Over 60 clients, volunteers – past and present – and local dignitaries including MP Munira Wilson, attended.

Guests enjoyed afternoon tea, music and gifts to take home.

The Teddington Ukulele Players provided entertainment with songs from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Paddy cake

96-year-old client Paddy Ching cut the anniversary cake, describing the volunteers as “wonderful” adding, “We really appreciate all you do.”

The care group was founded in 1975 by Douglas Brown, who lived in Harrowdene Gardens. It began as a small group of neighbours helping each other. It has since grown to serve more than 300 clients with about 30 volunteers doing shopping trips, errands, and organising outings and other social events.

“We’ve had a fabulous afternoon – such great fun!” said Betty Haines, who is 100 years old next year. “I loved singing along to the music”.

Shirley Meaker, 91, added, “Wonderful, just wonderful. The food, the entertainment… what a lovely afternoon.”

The Teddington & Hampton Wick Voluntary Care Group is looking for new volunteers, if you can lend a hand, please do get in touch – office@tedcare.org.uk or 020 8943 3112 if you’re interested in helping out.
