Feedback to Sainsbury's
Saturday 6th December 2025
When Sainsbury’s Local opened on the High Street recently, they had to apply to the council for a licence to sell alcohol. On granting that licence, the council made it a condition that a representative from Sainsbury’s would meet regularly with the HWA (twice or more a year).
We have now invited the local store manager to attend our January committee meeting, and we are asking everyone to let us know of any issues you would like us to raise on your behalf. Please send an email to info@hamptonwick.org.uk by 10th January latest.
As background, the licence includes all the usual restrictions on selling alcohol to under-18s. You can view the full licence here (PDF): Licence awarded to Sainsbury’s Local
Additional specific conditions are attached to the licence for the Hampton Wick store as follows:
Conditions offered by Sainsbury’s following resident representations
1. The opening hours of the premises shall be limited to 07:00 to 23:00.
2. There shall be no inbound deliveries to the premises outside of the hours of 10:00 and 15:00 save for bread, newspapers and magazines.
3. Delivery drivers shall be given clear, written instructions to use their vehicles in a responsible manner so as not to cause a nuisance to any residents or generally outside the premises; not to leave engines running when the vehicles are parked; and not to obstruct the highway.
4. No delivery cages or crates will be left on the pavement at any time.
Conditions imposed by the Licensing Sub-Committee:
• No articulated lorries will be used to make deliveries to the premises.
• The licence holder will, if invited, send a representative to meetings of the Hampton Wick Association on two or more occasions each year.
• A direct telephone number for the manager at the premises shall be publicly available at all times the premises is open. This telephone number is to be made available to residents and businesses in the vicinity.
If you are aware of any breaches to these conditions, or you have any other concerns about the operation of this store, please let us know by 10th January. We will then collate the issues ahead of our meeting with the store manager on 14th January. We will report back on the outcome of the meeting.
